Are hadiths and Sunna truly part of Islam or are they baseless traditions which cripple the message of peace described in the Holy Quran?
Traditional Muslims claim that one who does not believe in Hadiths and Sunna is a “kafeer” (infidel). The term hadith refers to sayings attributed to the prophet Muhammad. The word ‘Sunnah’ refers to religious traditions alledgedly established by Muhammad, and authentified through a consensus of his companions. Unlike Quran which was fully written down during Muhammad’s ministry, both hadiths and sunna are traditions that were passed down orally (after the prophet’s death in 632) for over 100 years before they were ever written down. Even though Quran proclaims it is fully detailed and contains the details of everything (7:52, 6:114.
Let us study some of those “pearls of wisdom” found in the books of hadiths. The reader will judge by him(her)self if one who rejects totally the hadiths and sunna (like me) is an infidel or a true believer who stands up to defend Islam. Be my witness that I am aware Muhammad never uttered the nonsense which follows.
Hadiths:
► Muhammad and torture, recommending drinking urine?

Adultery: from Sahih Muslim
Book 017, Number 4191:
'Ubada b. as-Samit reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Receive (teaching) from me, receive (teaching) from me. Allah has ordained a way for those (women). When an unmarried male commits adultery with an unmarried female (they should receive) one hundred lashes and banishment for one year. And in case of married male committing adultery with a married female, they shall receive one hundred lashes and be stoned to death.
Ibn Abbas reported that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said to Ma'iz b. Malik: Is it true what has reached me about you? He said: What has reached you about me? He said: It has reached me that you have committed (adultery) with the slave-girl of so and so? He said: Yes. He (the narrator) said: He testified four times. He (the Holy Prophet) then made pronouncement about him and he was stoned (to death).
► Stoning to death the she monkey?
Narrated by ‘Amru bin Maimun: "During the pre-lslamic period of ignorance I (Muhammad) saw a she-monkey surrounded by a number of monkeys. They were all stoning it, because it had committed illegal sexual intercourse. I (Muhammad) too, stoned it along with them."
► Female genital mutilation ("woman circumcision") recommended in Islam?
Hadith reported by Umm 'Atiyyah: "A woman used to perform circumcision in Madinah. The Prophet (s.A.w.) said to her: 'When you circumcise, do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband.'" (Related by Abu Dawud & al-Bayhaq) (This hadith is considered weak by some authorities and valid by others).
“When two circumcised parts unite then bathing becomes obligatory.” (Sahih, reported by Ahmad and Al-Baihaqee)
This hadith is considered strong and clearly implies that Muslims who have intercourse, both men and women, should be circumcised. In reality, circumcision is not mentioned in the Quran, neither for the man and surely not for the woman, and is therefore not part of Islam.
► Traditionnal Muslim believe it is impossible to tamper with the Quran (it is actually possible, but any tampering will always be exposed by code 19): What do they have to say concerning the Hadiths which claim an entire verse is not only missing from the Quran but lost forever? The parchment on which the verse about stoning to death for adultery was written, was eaten and abrogated by a goat. (Ibn Maajah, 36/1944; Hanbal, 3/61; 5/131, 132, 183; 6/269)
► Women and horse are bad omen?
Sahi Al Bukhari: Volume 5, book 58, number 188:
Sahih Al Bukhary 76/5 "Bad omen is in the woman, the horse and the home."
► Prayer nullified by women, monkeys and black dogs
Sahih Bukhary 8/102 and Hanbel 4/86 "If a monkey, a black dog or a woman passes in front of a praying person, his prayer is nullified."
Apparently pigs don’t nullify the prayer, too bad women do…
► Killing the apostate?
Sahih Bukhary 9/57
Mohammed said, "Whoever changes his Islamic religion, kill him."
Such is the Sunni version of religious freedom...
► No big deal to kill a “kafeer” (infidel)?
Sahih Bukhary 9/50
Mohammed said, " No Muslim should be killed for killing a Kafir" (infidel).
► Hadiths are crippled with ridiculous examples and numerous contradictions. Example:
The Prophet never urinated in a standing position.(Masnad Hanbal, 6/136, 192, 213)
The Prophet urinated in a standing position. (Bukhari, 4/60, 62)
Quran: ﴾4:82﴿ Why do they not study the Quran carefully? If it were from other than GOD, they would have found in it numerous contradictions.
► Scientific miracles in the hadiths?:
The earth is carried on a giant bull; when it shakes its head, then an earthquake occurs. (Ibn Katheer 2/29; 50/1)
► It is very bad to cut women’s fingers, what should be the punishment?:
The punishment for cutting the fingers of a woman is to pay her: 10 camels for one finger; 20 camels for two fingers; 30 camels for three fingers, and 20 (twenty) camels for four fingers. (Hanbal, 2/182; Muwatta, 43/11)
One gets a discount after cutting the fourth finger: The penalty goes down from 30 camels for three fingers to twenty camels for four fingers!!!! Is it the Sunni version of compassion for the sinner, or simply because it is a fair practice to allow discounts for large quantities? Bottom line: If you already have cut off three fingers to a woman, just cut off another one and you will save 10 camels !!!! After such nonsense, is it really a surprise that women are treated like garbage in traditional Islam?
► Muhammad bewitched?
The Prophet had been bewitched by a Jew, and for several days he did not know what he was doing. (Bukhari, 59/11; 76/47; Hanbal 6/57; 4/367)
► Hadiths and racism: Muhammad expressing his views on people of color?:
Narated By Anas bin Malik : Allah’s Apostle said, “You should listen to and obey, your ruler even if he was an Ethiopian (black) slave whose head looks like a raisin.”Bukhari Vol 9, Book 89, Number 256
These hadiths are considered authentic and pass the test invented by traditional Muslims who set up criterias to accept or reject them. The above hadiths are what they call "strong" hadiths. There are hundreds and hundreds of similarly disgusting hadiths and sunna rules all over the place.
It is shameful both to believe in them and disgraceful to call people who reject them kafeers (infidels).
To people who believe in Hadiths my question is: Are you on the side of people who follow blindly baseless inherited traditions (Satan’s side, 31:6, 45:6, 6:112-123) or on God’s side (Quran Alone, 17:46)?
Quran alone is to be followed. All hadiths are to be discarded. Quran provides the details of everything, we don't need anything beside it (7:52, 6:114.
To people who try to compromise, and accept some Hadiths and reject others, are you trying to reinvent your own religion, what to accept and reject, what looks politically correct and what doesn't ? Did God give you a special gift to know for sure without ever failing? People who try to find a way in between will never succeed and will always be in disagreement which each others because there will never be any unanimity on anything. Furthermore there will always be dramatic issues on which they disagree as we are going to see. It just takes one bad apple for all the apples to become rotten.
Interpreting the law in traditionnal Islam:
There are four schools of religious law in the Sunni world (90% of the islamic world) that are authorized to interpret the law in the islamic society. They are the foundation of the islamic society when it comes to interpret the law. They are the Maliki, Hanbali, Hanafi and Shafi'i schools, and they base their interpretations on Quran, hadiths and sunna. For instance, according to the Maliki rite (after the interpretations of the imam Malik, and considered the least strict of the four schools), the following rules are to be implemented:
► If one refuses to perform the ritual prayer (Salaat), he is put in isolation until the next prayer, then put to death if he refuses to perform the next prayer.
► The apostate shall be put to death.
► The adultery shall be stoned to death.
This is very simply completely in line with the hadiths we read in this article.
The issue of "female genital mutilation":
We are going to take this most controversial issue as an exemple to understand what the four schools are really about, so everyone can evaluate if their enormous weight on the islamic world is justified, or if, together with hadiths and sunna, they are actually responsible for Islam to be completely disfigured:
Definition: Female genital cutting (FGC), also known as female genital mutilation (FGM) or female circumcision, refers to "all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs whether for cultural, religious or other non-therapeutic reasons." (quoted from Wikipedia). The facts: Female genital cutting is recommended (not mandatory) in the maliki and Hanbali school; it is “sunna” (strongly recommended) in the Hanafi school and mandatory in the Shafi'i School. Facing the truth: The four major schools of law in the sunni world at the very least recommend Female Genital Mutilation. They are unanimous that it is a good thing !!!!! Lots of Muslims never heard about that because it is a very inconvenient and disturbing truth. Religious authorities try to hide it. But here are the facts, and such is the type of shameful foundation on which traditional Islam is built, and which they trust. Female Genital Mutilation (called "female circumcision" by those who try to hide what it really is) is obviously never mentioned in Quran, and for good reason: It is a pagan practice inspired by satan. If Hadiths, sunna and "the four schools" combined can influence people in such a way that they accept and enforce such horrible laws, it means that the foundation on which the islamic world is built is permanently cracked. We cannot trust them in any way. It means that traditional Islam needs to face its devils and undergo a complete revolution. We need to go back to the essence of Islam: Quran alone, which always contradicts all the horror found in Hadiths and sunna. The ulemas, "doctors" in religious law, whether for or against female genital mutilation, will fight until the Day of Resurrection on the issue (and many others), simply because FGM is mentioned in the hadiths and sunna. It is written, they cannot eraise it. This is why today, and as we speak, in countries like Egypt, Jordan, Saoudia Arabia, Irak, and a plethora of african countries, just to name a few, throngs of Muslim women (millions every year), sometimes the majority in a given region or country, are sexually and psychologically mutilated. Can we even try to fathom all the suffering, all the broken lives? Only victims can, it's too horrible. Shame on traditional Islam! The above are just a few shocking examples we find in the maliki rite and other schools as well. Hadiths and sunna are much worse than the cancer of Islam. Those who refuse to discard all Hadiths and sunna (100%) and try to find a way in between only remove the cancer partially. It will keep on growing and they will forever remain a sick, corrupted religion built on a cracked foundation. Sunni Islam, and Shii Islam is no better, are truly horrible religions. It will never change the extraordinay beauty and peace of real Islam as described in Quran Alone. Most of traditional Muslims who are given a chance to follow the path of Quran alone refuse to purify their faith because of lack of sincerity and/or social pressure. The incredible irony is that the very same people would never have accepted hadiths and sunna in the first place, would have been horrified by them, and would have strongly condemned them if they had been born in a different family, in a different religion, in a different country. Would you delegate the interpretation of the law in your society to a serial killer who stones to death the adultery, kills the apostate, kills people who refuse to pray, mutilates sexually girls and women? Would such a serial killer still deserve any credit, if we discarded the horrors, when it comes to interpret the rest of the law ? Or should his interpretations be entirely discarded and rethought according to the best law (GOD'S LAW) and the only school (QURAN ALONE) that deserves any credit ? Think about it. Please help us fight obscurantism and pass down the word about this article: send a link to your friends, tell your loved ones why hadiths and sunna corrupt our societies and how much suffering and injustice women and men have to endure because of them. Quran, the only path: ﴾45:6﴿ “These are God's revelations (Quran) that we recite to you truthfully. In which HADITH other than God and His revelations do they believe?" ﴾31:6﴿ "Among the people, there are those who uphold baseless HADITH, and thus divert others from the path of God without knowledge, and take it in vain. These have incurred a shameful retribution." ﴾6:112-123﴿ "We have permitted the enemies of every prophet - human and jinn devils - to inspire in each other FANCY WORDS , in order to deceive. Had your Lord willed, they would not have done it. You shall disregard them and their FABRICATIONS. This is to let the minds of those who do not believe in the Hereafter listen to such FABRICATIONS, and accept them, and thus expose their real convictions.
